Choosing the right Reolink camera for you.

Updated 9 December, 2020

Reolink has spent over 10 years perfecting its lines of cameras for both home and commercial spaces. These Reolink security cameras are also the best choice for DIYers as it makes for easy installation and mobile app pairing and the Reolink wireless cameras are no exception.

The only question remains, with so much variety in cameras available, which one is the right one for me? Here we go through some of the most popular and versatile models.

Reolink Argus PT

The Reolink Argus PT is the go-to choice for those with expansive properties. Use this to monitor an entire stretch of the corridor outside of your Queenslander home. Or basically, any wide expanse area can be monitored with its wide 105° viewing angle. To add to this, it has a pan of 355° and a tilt of 140°, so it gets a big tick in terms of flexibility.

Pairing your wifi to the Reolink Argus PT is easy, simply scan the barcode to begin the installation. Plus, doing this step first, gives you a better indication of how far away you can set up your camera from your internet router. Instructions say no more than 80m, but this can vary depending on how thick and how many walls the signal needs to go through. The better solution? Get yourself a wifi extender such as the Netgear wifi range extender to boost the signal.

This camera comes with a rechargeable lithium battery, that normally lasts between 4 - 6 months in standby mode. The battery life does vary based on usage, temperature and strength of wifi connectivity. But don’t worry, the Reolink app will alert you when the battery is down to 10%.

The Reolink Lumus provides you with exactly that, a spotlight and camera in one. When the Reolink Lumus spots the intruder via PIR or motion detection technology, it does three things. Firstly, it turns on its bright spotlight, secondly, it activates the record function of the camera. Thirdly, it sets off its loud alarm and sends notifications straight to your smart device. This is Reolink’s first spotlight and camera in one which also uses clear colour night vision. If you have particular areas that you want to monitor, simply hop onto the Reolink app, where you can set activity zones, as well as adjusting the motion sensitivity. Thus reducing the number of unwanted alarms.
